The Ministry of Detainees sends urgent letters to several international bodies about the conditions of the detainees during winter.
The Ministry of Detainees sent an urgent letter to several international bodies demanding them to urgently interfere to provide protection for Palestinian detainees especially with the impact of harsh weather and cold winter.
These letters were sent to Mr. Michael Lynk, the Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Palestinian territories, Mr. Robert Mardini, the Regional Director of the International Red Cross, and Ms. Maryam Muller, Director of the Red Cross in Gaza. The Ministry confirmed that the Palestinian detainees are living through tough conditions especially the prisons of (Neqev, Nafha, Remon and Beersheba) as the winter is hitting really bad this year.
The worst conditions are inside the Neqev prison where the detainees had to stay inside their rooms all day and night and didn’t leave for the outside yards to have their break time. Some sections are made of tents and this makes them the most affected as the seeps inside damaging their clothes and mattresses.
The Ministry urged all relevant parties to visit the above mentioned prisons to observe the conditions of the detainees that put them in real danger. It also stressed that the occupation authorities are obliged to follow international laws and conventions that guarantee all detainees the right of decent detention conditions without any violations that can harm them.
