Silent execution... a method of ending the detainees' lives

Inside the worn-out, narrow prison cells, which their walls were eaten by high humidity, the suffering of Palestinian detainees is compounded day after day, specifically with sick prisoners whom the Prison Administration carries out death sentences indirectly through deliberate medical negligence, leaving them prey to diseases that devour their bodies one by one.

More than 15 detainees died as martyrs inside the occupation prisons as a result of continuing the policy of medical negligence against them, and indifference to their health conditions, which worsen daily, leaving them vulnerable to chronic diseases, the last of whom was the martyred prisoner Sami Al-Amour.

Many detainees have almost died inside the occupation’s hospitals without taking into account their humanitarian conditions, such as the detainee Kayed Al-Fasfus and Hisham Abu Hawash, and they were clear evidence of the ugliness of the occupation. Moreover, the detainee Nasser Abu Hamid (49 years), from Al-Amari camp in Al-Bireh, has been in a coma for 12 days, after he suffered from acute inflammation of the lungs, as a result of a bacterial infection.

Different diseases spread among many detainees, such as infections, chest crises, skin diseases, eye diseases, stomach ulcers, hemorrhoids, flatulence, as well as chronic diseases caused by bullet wounds before arrest, or torture after arrest, and they remain without treatment and without health care.

The head of Media Department in the Ministry of Detainees’ Affairs in Gaza, Islam Abdo, explained that the number of sick prisoners has reached about 600 prisoners with various diseases, and they need urgent surgeries. He stressed that every delay is tantamount to the penetration of the disease into the detainee’s body, and thus it becomes difficult to offer treatment and medical care for him.

In his interview with Al-Rai, Abdo said: "There are 12 detainess who have cancer, while there are other detainees who live permanently in the so-called Ramle prison clinic, and their number is approximately 18," noting that there are also about 45 detainees with disabilities. They need chairs and crutches to help them move around.
