Bahaa El-Din Al-Madhoun, Undersecretary of the Ministry of detainees, stressed the importance of the role of writers and intellectuals in highlighting the case of detainees and conveying their sacrifices to the world. He also stressed on the need to have more solidarity activities with the detainees and support them with all possibilities and not leave them alone in their battle against the occupation prisons administration
This came today, Wednesday 29/12, during a meeting held by the ministry at its headquarters, entitled "The Role of Writers and Intellectuals in Supporting Detainees’ Case", in the presence of Dr. Abdel-Khaleq Al-Aaf, President of the Association of Palestinian Writers, Mr. Saad Karim, head of the artistic department of Hamas, the cartoonist Umaia Juha, and the ex-detainee and writer Mr. Walid Al-Hodly via video conference with the attendance of figures from the national factions, families of detainees and some ex-detainees.
Al-Madhoun explained that the books and novels by the Palestinian detainees indicate the affiliation of its writers to the Palestinian cause, and it is great movement to show the importance of the Palestinian novel and its manifestation at all national and international levels to show the world what our prisoners are suffering. He pointed out that many writers who belong to the issue of prisoners raised this issue with their writings and worked to stir the consciences and hearts of millions around the world, and that there are poets, writers and intellectuals who wrote their novels from within prisons, illuminating the darkness of prison
On his part, Dr. Abdel-Khaleq Al-Aaf, head of the Palestinian Writers Association, talked about the methods that the occupation sought to practice on the detainees to implement its plans, which is the policy of intellectual and cultural emptying, noting that the occupation announced a complete ban on national and human culture inside prisons and prevented the detainees from having paper, pens or books.
In turn, the cartoonist, Umaia Juha, said that the detainees case will always be on the cartoonist's priority list, and that the cartoonists took it upon themselves to deliver a clear message to the world through drawings about the torture and sacrifices of the detainees.
